Myette A.
Buyer
When Myette walked into her college career fair, the last place this public relations and psychology major expected to work was at a high-tech company.
Myette is a buyer at EMC for Supply Base C Class hardware. Although she doesn’t have a high-tech background, her job can be pretty technical. "I have to walk a fine line between preserving the relationship with the supplier and making sure I’m getting the highest quality products for EMC," she said.
Myette works with a range of people from varying backgrounds and with different skill sets. She uses her psychology training to gauge tense situations. "When there are material shortages or quality issues, I have to be very diplomatic—but still get my point across," she says. Myette had a lot of practice traveling around the United States as the child of an armed forces member. This flexibility and ability to adapt helps her to forge relationships with vendors, EMC engineers, and others.
Why Myette joined EMC
Myette has worked at EMC for two years and feels settled. Shes attended enrichment classes for recent grads and likes to take advantage of the on-site gym. Though the company is known for making other organizations run more efficiently, EMC is also focused on the well-being of their employees. "The biggest incentive to working here is that attention is paid to what our needs are," says Myette.
